Leander Wolfpack resume season with a 42-0 shutout
After waiting almost a full month in between games, the Leander Wolfpack were finally back in action this past Saturday and picked up right where they left off with a 42-0 shutout of the San Antonio Texans.
“I wasn’t expecting a shutout, we like to always hope for one, but I wasn’t expecting it,” Wolfpack co-owner Mark Rogers told Developmental Football USA. “The defense played good, but for once this season, we had an opportunity for our offense to get rolling early and they did that.”
Running back Dajan Henderson led the way offensively with 14 carries for 130 yards and a touchdown and Eddie Bailey added 52 yards and another score.
“The one thing about this week is the offensive line played their best game,” Rogers said. “All game they were finishing blocks at the first and the second level.”
Darius Jones added a rushing touchdown, two catches for 37 yards and a receiving touchdown and a two-point conversion.
“As predicted, Wanya Ward came in and played really well on the offensive side of the ball,” Rogers said.
Ward had three catches for 64 yards and two touchdowns while making a case to factor in even more in the future for the Wolfpack offense.
“Ward came to us late and was still learning the offense, but he got involved with some rushing and played some quarterback for us in Wildcat and caught a pair of touchdowns. We’re pretty excited about the options that we have on offense right now.”
Defensively, Leander held the Texans to just 83 total yards. Cedric Harris led the way with 6 tackles and Kasi Bakers added five. Deondrae Ramos and Avery Allen each added sacks and Carlos Willory an interception.
“It was a really good game by our rovers Wayne Johnson and Kasi Baker,” Rogers said. “Carlos Willory had a one-handed interception, he came in and contributed really well at strong safety.”
This weekend, the Wolfpack travel to Spring, Texas, to face the 1-4 Texas Crusaders in the first ever meeting between the two teams.”
“The train is on the track, that’s what I told them,” Rogers said. “The only way a train stops is if the people on the train decide to stop it. We’ve got five in a row now, so we’ll chip off one at a time. Our next opponent is the Texas Crusaders, so we’ll see if we can execute at a high level and come out on Easter weekend with a victory.”
